Founded by Khadija Abdullah, Animal House is a no-kill rescue caring for the stray cats and dogs of the Kingdom — from Riyadh's own streets to rescues carried in from as far as Arar province, and adopters found as far away as Los Angeles and Paris.

01 — Sanctuary

Life inside Animal House

Housed within an Istiraha roughly 45 minutes from Riyadh, our current home is far from perfect — but every corner of it was built around one idea: animals should live as colonies and packs, never behind bars, waiting for someone to come find them.

Every animal, cared for the same way

Not contained to cages — our cats roam, rest, and eat together as one community, the way street cats naturally organize themselves.

Every dog at Animal House runs, plays, and sleeps as part of a pack — never isolated in a cage.

Mandatory two-week quarantine

Every new arrival spends two weeks in quarantine before joining the general population — and is microchipped, spayed/neutered, and fully vaccinated first.

Kittens and nursing mothers get their own quiet, protected spaces, separate from the general cat and dog population.

How We Get There

Key pillars of our vision

We must solve the problem on the ground through immediate action, not talk. Nobody can argue with results.

We must retain and train wildlife investigators who expose the crimes and give us the data to publish in order to take action. Nobody can argue with data and proof.

We must sway hearts and minds through the amplification of sermons which drive awareness towards the historic fair treatment of animals. Nobody can argue with history.

Engaging Saudi youth

We must engage the youth of Saudi Arabia. Nobody can decide the future of animals in Saudi Arabia better than them.

A scalable shelter model

We must develop a sustainable model to scale a shelter system across Saudi Arabia, starting first with the capital. Nobody can argue with first-world progress.

Looking Ahead

A permanent home is next

Our current Istiraha was never built to be a shelter. We're raising awareness for a permanent facility on at least 20,000 sqm of land in Riyadh — one that would let us house 700 cats and 75 dogs on site, and scale our TNR program to 2,400 spay/neuter procedures a year. If you can offer land, lease us a site, or have a farm we could rent, please email us.
